The BJP-led MahaYuti alliance is on track to retain power in Maharashtra with a massive majority. According to the latest figures at the website of Election Commission, BJP and its allies are leading in approximately 220 of the 288 Assembly constituencies in Maharashtra. The performance of the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) has been lackluster, with its candidates leading in only 52 seats.
As per the Election Commission's data, within the MahaYuti alliance, BJP candidates are leading in 125 seats, Shiv Sena in 56, and NCP (Ajit Pawar faction) in 39 seats. In the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi, candidates from Sharad Pawar's NCP are leading in 12 seats, Congress in 22, and Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray faction) in 18.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis, and Ajit Pawar are all leading in their respective constituencies. The performance of the BJP and its allies has exceeded expectations. Following their loss of 17 out of 48 Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra, the ruling MahaYuti has made a strong comeback.
It is believed that the BJP and its allies have successfully addressed voter dissatisfaction through their decisions and welfare schemes, while the Maha Vikas Aghadi has failed to replicate its success from the Lok Sabha elections. The worst performance has been from Sharad Pawar's NCP, which is projected to secure only 12 seats.
The ruling faction of Shiv Sena contested 81 seats and is poised to win 56. The BJP contested 149 seats and is likely to win around 125. Congress contested 101 seats but is leading in only 22. Ajit Pawar’s NCP faction contested 59 seats and is leading in 39, while Sharad Pawar’s NCP contested 86 seats and is leading in 12. The Uddhav faction of Shiv Sena contested 95 seats and is ahead in 18.
In the outgoing Assembly, BJP had 105 seats, Shiv Sena 41, NCP 40, Congress 45, Shiv Sena (UBT) 15, NCP (SP) 12, VBA 3, Samajwadi Party 2, AIMIM 2, Prahar Janshakti Party 2, MNS 1, CPM 1, PWP 1, Swabhimani Paksha 1, Rashtriya Samaj Paksha 1, Jan Surajya Shakti 1, Krantikari Shetkari Paksha 1, and 13 Independents.
