CropLife India, the representative body for major crop science companies, announced the change in leadership on the Board of Directors. Ankur Aggarwal, Managing Director of Crystal Crop Protection Ltd., has been elected as the new Chairman of the Board during the 44th Annual General Meeting, held recently. Ankur Aggarwal succeeds Dr. K. C. Ravi, who served as the Chairman for the past four years.
Anil Kakkar, Vice President, Sumitomo Chemical India, continues his role as Vice Chairman for the fourth consecutive year. Mohan Babu, Chief Operating Officer, Bayer CropScience for India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka; has been inducted as the second Vice Chairman of the Board.
"Ankur's extensive experience positions him as a pivotal leader in the crop protection industry. He is committed to advancing innovative technologies that empower farmers to enhance productivity sustainably, all while addressing the crucial environmental challenges we face today," said a Croplife India press release.
In his statement, Aggarwal highlighted the pressures facing India's agricultural sector due to shrinking landholdings and a population that is growing by 0.8% annually. He emphasized the need for sustainable agricultural practices and the responsible use of crop protection solutions to maximize productivity on existing farmland.
"The adoption of sustainable agricultural practices, efficient resource management, and responsible use of crop protection solutions will be essential for maximizing productivity on existing farmland," said Aggarwal. "As the chairman of CropLife India, we are committed to improving the lives of Indian farmers by providing science-based solutions that ensure effective and sustainable crop protection."
Durgesh Chandra, Secretary General of CropLife India, expressed confidence in Aggarwal's leadership.
