After the imposition of the model code of conduct in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh, the state police and other law enforcement agencies have seized unaccounted cash worth about Rs 11.40 crore so far.
Besides, about 6.7 tonnes of narcotic substances worth more than Rs 23 crore have been impounded, according to UP Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Ajay Kumar Shukla.
He said the different law enforcement agencies, including police, income tax, excise and narcotics, are working in tandem to swoop down upon the violators of the model code and take strict action.
The state police have also seized more than 42 kg of precious metals estimated at Rs 70 lakh.
Meanwhile, the excise and police departments have recovered over 0.5 million litres of illicit liquor and hooch valued at Rs 11.54 crore in state-wide searches and raids.
So far, 202 licensed weapons have been seized, 611 licenses revoked and more than 1.74 million people restrained in the state to ensure free and fair polls in February and March 2022.
Additionally, more than 0.71 million licensed arms have been deposited with the police as mandated under the poll conduct.
The state authorities have seized 329 arms licences while 937 licences have also been cancelled even as nearly 2.5 million persons have been restrained under the CrPC with a view to holding free and fair elections.
Moreover, 309 FIRs have been filed under different sections related to the breach of election norms while police have seized 5,357 firearms, 5,587 cartridges, 214 explosives and 132 bombs.
At the same time, the compliance and vigilance teams have removed more than 5.6 million publicity materials from public and private places across UP. These include wall graffiti/writing, posters, banners and other items.
