20th PM-KISAN Installment to Be Released on August 2; PM Modi to Transfer Funds from Varanasi

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan Chairs High-Level Meeting to Review Preparations; Nationwide Campaign to Ensure Direct Benefit Transfer to Farmers' Accounts

The 20th installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme will be released on August 2, 2025. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will transfer the installment to farmers' accounts from his parliamentary constituency, Varanasi, as part of a nationwide programme aimed at ensuring direct benefit transfer (DBT) to millions of farmers.

In preparation for the event, Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan chaired a high-level meeting on Tuesday to review arrangements and mobilization efforts. The meeting was attended virtually by Directors, Vice Chancellors, and heads of 731 Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), and agricultural universities across the country.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan directed officials to connect farmers at the national, state, district, and village levels with the programme and organize it as a nationwide campaign. He underscored that under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, ₹6,000 is provided annually to farmers in three equal installments, with each installment disbursed every four months. The 20th installment will see ₹20,500 crore transferred to 9.7 crore farmers.

Highlighting the importance of the event, the Union Minister said it should be celebrated as both a “festival” and a “mission” — not just to ensure financial support through DBT, but also to spread awareness about agricultural schemes. He called upon farmers to actively participate in the August 2 event and stay informed about ongoing agricultural development initiatives.

To maximize outreach, Chouhan asked officials to engage grassroots workers like Krishi Sakhis, Drone Didis, Bank Sakhis, Pashu Sakhis, Bima Sakhis, and Gram Panchayat Sarpanches. He noted that this is also an opportune time to engage farmers on key issues such as Kharif crop planning.

Since the scheme's inception in 2019, the government has disbursed ₹3.69 lakh crore directly to farmers through 19 installments. The upcoming 20th installment further strengthens the government's commitment to empowering farmers and ensuring timely support.

The meeting was also attended by Agriculture Secretary Devesh Chaturvedi, ICAR Director General Dr. M.L. Jat, and other senior officials from the Ministry of Agriculture.
