Preliminary report of area coverage under Kharif crops as on June 02, 2023, shows about 2.17 lakh ha area coverage under rice compared to 2.96 lakh ha during the corresponding period of last year.
The area coverage has been reported mainly from Nagaland (0.79 lakh ha), Assam (0.48 lakh ha), West Bengal (0.32 lakh ha), Uttarakhand (0.18 lakh ha), Jammu & Kashmir (0.16 lakh ha), Uttar Pradesh (0.15 lakh ha), Tripura (0.08 lakh ha), Chhattisgarh (0.01 lakh ha) and Haryana (0.01 lakh ha).
Official data showed about 0.87 lakh ha area coverage under pulses has been reported compared to 0.91 lakh ha during the corresponding period of last year. The area coverage has been reported mainly from Karnataka (0.63 lakh ha), Uttar Pradesh (0.14 lakh ha), Uttarakhand (0.06 lakh ha), Tripura (0.02 lakh ha) and Assam (0.02 lakh ha).
Coarse-cum-Nutri cereals: About 1.54 lakh ha area coverage under coarse cereals has been reported compared to 1.30 lakh ha during the corresponding period of last year. The area coverage has been reported mainly from J&K (0.75 lakh ha), Uttar Pradesh (0.53 lakh ha), Karnataka (0.23 lakh ha), Haryana (0.03 lakh ha) and Punjab (0.01).
Oilseeds: About 0.53 lakh ha area coverage under oilseeds has been reported compared to 0.56 lakh ha during the corresponding period of last year. The area coverage has been reported mainly from Karnataka (0.26 lakh ha), Nagaland (0.19 lakh ha), Uttar Pradesh (0.04 lakh ha) and Uttarakhand (0.03 lakh ha).
Sugarcane: About 46.98 lakh ha area coverage under sugarcane has been reported compared to 46.67 lakh ha during the corresponding period of last year. The area coverage has been reported mainly from Uttar Pradesh (21.37 lakh ha), Maharashtra (10.38 lakh ha), Karnataka (4.20 lakh ha), Bihar (2.16 lakh ha), Gujarat (1.92 lakh ha), Tamil Nadu (1.59 lakh ha), Madhya Pradesh (1.15 lakh ha), Uttarakhand (0.90 lakh ha), Haryana (0.80 lakh ha), Punjab (0.79 lakh ha), Andhra Pradesh (0.37 lakh ha), Chhattisgarh (0.31 lakh ha), Telangana (0.23 lakh ha), Assam (0.21 lakh ha), Odisha (0.20 lakh ha) and West Bengal (0.15 lakh ha).
Jute & Mesta: About 5.68 lakh ha area coverage under Jute & Mesta has been reported compared to 6.50 lakh ha during the corresponding period of last year. The area coverage has been reported mainly from West Bengal (4.28 lakh ha), Bihar (0.68 lakh ha), Assam (0.59 lakh ha), Meghalaya (0.07 lakh ha) and Nagaland (0.03 lakh ha).
Cotton: About 13.43 lakh ha area coverage under cotton has been reported compared to 10.78 lakh ha during the corresponding period of last year. The area coverage has been reported mainly from Haryana (6.00 lakh ha), Rajasthan (5.00 lakh ha), Punjab (1.70 lakh ha), Karnataka (0.50 lakh ha) and Tamil Nadu (0.06 lakh ha).
