Dr. Suresh Itapu Elected as Chairman of the Soy Food Association

The newly elected leadership team includes Girish Matlani, Founder Chairman of SFPWA and Managing Director of Sonic Biochem Extractions Ltd., and Praneet Mutha, Director of Vippy Industries Ltd., who will serve as patrons.

Dr. Suresh Itapu has been elected as the new Chairman of the Soy Food Promotion and Welfare Association (SFPWA). The election took place during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the association, which represents over 3,000 soybean food processing units across the country.

The newly elected leadership team includes Girish Matlani, Founder Chairman of SFPWA and Managing Director of Sonic Biochem Extractions Ltd., and Praneet Mutha, Director of Vippy Industries Ltd., who will serve as patrons. Dr Ratan Sharma has been appointed Secretary, and Jatin Girdhar from Savour India Pvt. Ltd. will assume the role of Treasurer. Raj Kapoor will take on the responsibility of National Convener. The Executive Members include Sarat Kumar from Riddhi Seedhi Marketing, Nishith Patel, Ravi S from R.K Soya, Swapnil Gandhi from Vippy Soya, and Girish Laad from Sonic Biochem. Sumit Agarwal is the Ex-Officio Member, while Subbaro Bulusu from Bliss Foods and a representative from Fytomax are included as Special Invitees.

Dr. Itapu brings a wealth of experience to his new role. A renowned expert in the soy food industry, he holds advanced degrees in Food Science and Technology and has worked internationally, including at Purdue University, USA. He has been instrumental in promoting soy foods in India, helping to expand the market significantly over the past decade.

In his acceptance speech, Dr. Itapu underscored the importance of unity within the association, especially as the soy food industry navigates challenges, including the lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. He also outlined ambitious plans to support SFPWA members through initiatives such as webinars, a soy conclave, and a dedicated platform connecting consumers with soy food manufacturers.

Dr. Ratan Sharma, the newly appointed Secretary, added, “Dr. Itapu’s extensive experience and vision for the SFPWA will be instrumental in propelling our industry forward. Together, we can enhance the visibility of soy products and address the challenges we face.”

Dr. Itapu’s vision includes boosting consumer awareness of the health benefits of soy. He also plans to enhance innovation and sustainability within the industry, with a focus on research and development. Under his leadership, the SFPWA aims to strengthen its advocacy efforts, representing the industry’s interests with policymakers and promoting favourable regulations for soy food producers.

The newly elected leadership is poised to guide the SFPWA through a transformative period, with a focus on growth, innovation, and collaboration. As Dr. Itapu concluded in his speech, "With the collective efforts of our members, we will overcome obstacles and pave the way for a prosperous soy food sector in India."
