The three-day India Bioenergy & Tech Expo (IBET) 2026 concluded at India Expo Mart in Greater Noida, on Thursday with investment commitments and MoUs worth around Rs. 15,000 crore, according to an initial estimate. The commitments underline growing investor interest in India’s bioenergy sector and strengthen Uttar Pradesh’s position as an emerging hub for green energy investments.
Organised by the Indian Federation of Green Energy (IFGE) in partnership with the Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA), the expo brought together policymakers, investors, technology companies, entrepreneurs and industry experts to explore opportunities across compressed biogas (CBG), ethanol, biomass, biodiesel, waste-to-energy, bio-mobility, biomaterials and sustainable aviation fuel.
Focus on Farmers’ Income Opportunities
The highlight of the final day was a special session titled Indian Farms: Fuelling the Green Energy Revolution and Farmers' Income. The session brought together policymakers, industry leaders, technology providers and other stakeholders to discuss how agricultural residues can be converted into clean energy while creating additional income streams for farmers.
The discussion emphasised the need to build stronger feedstock supply chains, improve farmer-industry linkages and develop viable and sustainable rural business models around bioenergy.
The first two days of the expo featured high-level discussions on India’s bioenergy roadmap, Uttar Pradesh’s emerging role as a bioenergy investment hub and the potential of CBG to convert agricultural waste into an economic resource.
A.K. Sharma, Uttar Pradesh Minister for Energy and Additional Sources of Energy, highlighted the potential of CBG to increase farmers’ incomes, create employment in rural areas and convert agricultural waste into productive economic assets. The state government also reiterated its support for entrepreneurs investing in the bioenergy sector.
Agriculture Minister of Uttar Pradesh Surya Pratap Shahi said around Rs. 3,500 crore had already been invested in Uttar Pradesh’s CBG sector, generating nearly 25,000 jobs. He added that another 70-80 CBG plants are expected to come up in the state.
Kailash Singh Rajput, Minister of State for Energy and Additional Sources of Energy, Uttar Pradesh, along with senior officials from the Central and state governments, also participated in the three-day event.

Bioenergy Moving From Policy to Investment
Sanjay Ganjoo, Director General, Indian Federation of Green Energy (IFGE), said India’s bioenergy opportunity was moving beyond policy ambition to become a real investment and enterprise opportunity.
Ganjoo added that with the right policy support, technology and industry participation, bioenergy could simultaneously strengthen India’s energy security, reduce waste, create rural employment and provide an additional source of income for farmers.
The conclusion of IBET 2026 marks a significant milestone for India’s bioenergy ecosystem, with Uttar Pradesh emerging as a key destination for bioenergy investments. The scale of investment interest witnessed at the expo signals growing confidence in bioenergy as a strategic pillar of India’s clean-energy transition, rural economic growth and energy security.
