Rice production in the Kharif season for 2022-23 is estimated at 104.99 million tonnes (mt), which is lower than that last year by 6.77 mt. This information came in the First Advance Estimates of production of major Kharif crops for 2022-23 released by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare today. The production of rice stood at 111.76 mt in the 2021-22 Kharif season. The figures for 2021-22 are based on the Fourth Advance Estimates.
As per the First Advance Estimates for 2022-23 (Kharif only), total foodgrain production in the country is estimated at 149.92 mt, which is lower by 6.12 mt than the 2021-22 Kharif production of 156.04 mt.
The Kharif production of maize in the country during 2022-23 is estimated at a record 23.10 mt, which is higher by 4.7 lakh tonnes than that last year of 22.63 mt.
The production of Kharif nutri/coarse cereals is estimated at 36.56 mt, which is higher by 6.5 lakh tonnes than the 35.91 mt produced in 2021-22.
The total Kharif pulses production during 2022-23 is estimated at 8.37 mt, which is the same as that last year.
The total Kharif oilseeds production in the country during 2022-23 is estimated at 23.57 mt, which is higher by 3.2 lakh tonnes lower than the 23.89 mt in the 2021-22 Kharif season.
The total production of sugarcane in the country during 2022-23 is estimated at a record 465.05 mt. The production of sugarcane during 2022-23 is higher than the 431.8 mt produced last year.
The production of cotton is estimated at 34.19 million bales (of 170 kg each), higher than 31.20 million bales produced in 2021-22. However, the production of jute and mesta is estimated at 10.09 million bales (of 180 kg each), less than the 10.31 million bales produced last year.
