Amid growing concerns over protein deficiency in Indian diets, Two Brothers Organic Farms has launched Khapli Protein Atta, a nutrient-rich flour aimed at improving daily protein intake through staple foods like rotis.
The company said the new atta delivers around 22 grams of protein through four rotis, meeting nearly 40 per cent of the daily protein requirement of an average adult weighing 70 kg. The product has been priced at Rs 265 per kg.
The launch comes at a time when studies by organisations such as the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) and Centre for Economic and Social Studies (CESS) have highlighted inadequate protein consumption among households, particularly in India’s semi-arid regions.
The atta is made using Khapli wheat, also known as Emmer wheat, an ancient grain known for its nutritional value and digestibility. According to the company, the formulation contains 72 per cent Emmer wheat grain and 28 per cent other grains and soy protein.
Its ingredient mix includes Emmer wheat grain, soy flour, Bengal gram, soy protein isolate and finger millet. The company said the product contains up to 50 per cent lower gluten than conventional wheat flour and is rich in fibre, supporting easier digestion and sustained energy release.
Commenting on the launch, Satyajit Hange, Co-founder, Two Brothers Organic Farms, said the company aimed to improve the nutritional quality of everyday foods rather than relying on processed protein supplements.
Ajinkya Hange, Co-founder, said Khapli wheat has remained central to the company’s farming philosophy because of its resilience and nutritional benefits, adding that the new product combines indigenous grains with modern nutritional requirements.
Initially, the Khapli Protein Atta will be available through the brand’s domestic website and on Amazon, while quick commerce and offline gourmet retail availability are expected in the coming months.
