With only a couple of months left for the crucial 2022 Uttar Pradesh (UP) elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government has speeded up the disbursement of financial support to the flood-affected farmers in the state.

According to the UP government, more than Rs 415 crore has been allocated to about 1.1 million farmers in relief funds in the current 2021-22 financial year to the farmers hit by crop loss owing to recent unseasonal floods.

"The Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath, had clearly instructed that every farmer, whose crop has been damaged due to floods, must be compensated and work should be done on priority maintaining utmost sensitivity and promptness," an official said on November 21 evening.

The affected farmers' crops had been severely damaged due to torrential rains and heavy floods in September and early October 2021.

The compensation amount will be directly transferred to the beneficiaries' bank account under the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode from the district treasury.

In the wake of natural calamities, the state government provides financial assistance from the National Disaster Relief Fund (NDRF), he informed.
