Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, invited applications from candidates residing in Punjab and the Union Territory of Chandigarh, to its various Undergraduate and Postgraduate Programmes for Semester I (2024-25).
Dr Satbir Singh Gosal, the Vice-Chancellor of PAU, highlighted that the University is modelled on the pattern of Ohio State University - A Land Grant University, USA, and is committed to imparting teaching, research and extension education in agriculture and its allied fields. “The immense contribution to the overall growth in agriculture and human resource development has given PAU the status of the prime engine of development in Punjab and one of the best Agricultural Universities in Asia. Six other State Agricultural Universities of India have been carved out of PAU, thus granting PAU the unique status of being an epitome of agricultural excellence”, he added.
Dr TS Riar, Additional Director of Communication, stated, “PAU, established in 1962, is the country’s premier seat of excellence in agricultural teaching, research and extension. Ranked 1st among 63 State Agricultural Universities and 3rd among Agriculture and Allied Sector as per National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF- 2023), the University has earned national and international recognition in imparting quality education.”
Academic programmes of the University are run through its five constituent colleges at Ludhiana, viz. College of Agriculture, College of Horticulture, College of Agricultural Engineering & Technology, College of Basic Sciences & Humanities, College of Community Science and one College of Agriculture at Ballowal Saunkhri. Presently, the University offers 89 Teaching Programmes in various disciplines: 30 Doctorate (PhD), 46 Postgraduate (M.Sc./M.Tech./MBA/MBA-AB), 10 Undergraduate (B.Sc. Hons./B.Tech./), one Diploma Course and two Certificate Courses.
Students can also seek admission to PAU after matriculation in B.Sc. Hons Agriculture 2+4 year degree programme by joining Institutes of Agriculture (IOA) at Gurdaspur and Bathinda. The first two years at IOA in the said degree programme are equivalent to 10+2 (Medical stream) standard of the Punjab School Education Board, Mohali. Thereafter, the students gain entry into PAU for the completion of the said degree programme.
