Mother Dairy, a wholly owned subsidiary of National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), today announced a reduction in the consumer prices of select value-added dairy products and processed foods (under Safal brand), aligning with the recent GST reforms announced by the Government of India.
Sharing the announcement, Manish Bandlish, Managing Director, Mother Dairy, said, “The recent GST reduction across a wide range of dairy and processed food products represents a progressive step that will significantly boost consumption and accelerate the adoption of safe, high-quality packaged offerings. As a consumer-centric organisation, we are passing on 100% of the tax benefit to our patrons, effective September 22, 2025, keeping up with the spirit of this reform.”
He further added, “With this change, our entire portfolio now falls either under the exempted/nil or the lowest slab of 5%. We are confident this measure will positively impact the entire value chain: farmers will benefit from increased demand for packaged food products, further supported by GST reductions on farm equipment and allied components, while consumers will gain from affordable pricing and greater access to packaged dairy and processed foods.”
Mother Dairy also noted that pouch milk (e.g., Full Cream Milk, Toned Milk) has always been exempt from GST and remains so, with no change to its price.
Key Product Price Reductions
The price changes reflect the new GST rates for various product categories.
- UHT Milk Tetra Pack) and Paneer: The GST on UHT (Tetra Pack) milk and paneer has been reduced from 5% to 0%. This leads to a price drop for products like 1 litre UHT Toned Milk from ₹77 to ₹75, and 200 gm Paneer from ₹95 to ₹92.
- Ghee, Butter, Cheese, Milkshakes, and Frozen Snacks: The GST on these products has decreased from 12% to 5%. A 1 litre Ghee Pouch, for example, will now cost ₹645, down from ₹675. Butter (100 gm) is now ₹58, reduced from ₹62.
- Ice Creams: Ice creams see the most significant GST reduction, from 18% to 5%. This translates to a lower price for items such as a 50 ml Vanilla Cup, now costing ₹9 instead of ₹10, and a 1 litre Strawberry Crush Tub, reduced from ₹330 to ₹300.
- Safal Products: Several processed food products under the Safal brand, including frozen snacks, jam, pickles, and tomato puree, have had their GST lowered from 12% to 5%. Safal Frozen French Fries (400 gm) now cost ₹95, down from ₹100, and a 400 gm Safal Lime Pickle is reduced from ₹130 to ₹120.
