The central government is soon bringing out a new cooperative policy to increase the per capita income of farmers, Union Minister of State for Cooperation B L Verma has said. Verma said that the central government is preparing the world's largest food storage scheme, which will be implemented soon so that the farmers' food grains do not go waste.
He pointed out that the country currently has food grain warehouses with only 47 per cent storage capacity. The minister was talking to mediapersons on the sidelines of the convocation function at Vaikunth Mehta Cooperative Research Institute (VAMNICOM) in Pune on Saturday.
He informed that petrol pumps and LPG gas agencies will be provided in the country in the future through development societies i.e. Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS).
The central government has set a target of creating two lakh more new development societies, he said.
