The government has fixed standardized weight limits for the sale of bio-fertilizer packets in the market. The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has issued a notification specifying pack sizes for liquid biofertilizers, carrier-based biofertilizers, and VAM formulations to ensure uniformity and quality compliance.

According to the notification issued by the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Vesicular Arbuscular Mycorrhiza (VAM) biofertilizer packs must have a minimum weight of 500 grams and can go up to 5 kilograms. For spore-based mycorrhizal formulations, the minimum pack size has been set at 100 grams.

Carrier-based biofertilizers must be sold in packs of at least 200 grams, with an upper limit of 1 kilogram. In the case of liquid biofertilizers, the minimum pack size has been fixed at 50 milliliters, while the maximum permissible size is 1 liter.

These standardized limits will come into effect from April 1, 2026. The ministry has clarified that the new norms will not apply to products that were packaged before the date of notification.
