Shivraj Singh Chouhan Directs Timely Rollout of ‘Self-Reliance in Pulses Mission’ and ‘Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana’

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan directed senior officials to ensure time-bound implementation of the ‘Self-Reliance in Pulses Mission’ and ‘Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana’. The two schemes aim to boost farm productivity and self-reliance. Chouhan will soon meet ministers from 11 ministries to ensure coordinated execution and maximum farmer benefits.

Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare and Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, has instructed officials to ensure the timely and effective implementation of two flagship initiatives — the ‘Self-Reliance in Pulses Mission’ and the ‘Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana’.

Chairing a high-level review meeting with senior ministry officials, Chouhan emphasized that both schemes must be executed in a time-bound manner to deliver direct benefits to farmers. He announced plans to convene a meeting soon with ministers from 11 ministries to ensure coordinated and expeditious implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana.

Under the Self-Reliance in Pulses Mission, district-level clusters will be created to enhance production, with active support from state governments. The Union Minister directed officials to engage with state-level nodal officers to ensure smooth execution and progress monitoring.

The Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana, launched by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, integrates 36 sub-schemes across 11 ministries to drive agricultural transformation in 100 aspirational districts. Chouhan also instructed officials to organize a joint meeting with the concerned ministries and the NITI Aayog to align inter-ministerial efforts and maximize the benefits for farmers.

The Self-Reliance in Pulses Mission aims to boost India’s pulse production and reduce import dependence by increasing the area under cultivation from 275 lakh hectares to 310 lakh hectares, production from 242 lakh tonnes to 350 lakh tonnes, and productivity to 1,130 kg per hectare by 2030–31.

Both initiatives were launched by the Prime Minister on October 11, 2025, at Pusa, New Delhi. The Union Cabinet had earlier approved the Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana on July 16, 2025. It will be implemented over six years starting FY 2025–26 with an annual outlay of ₹24,000 crore, while the Self-Reliance in Pulses Mission carries a financial outlay of ₹11,440 crore for six years.

These landmark schemes are expected to strengthen India’s agricultural resilience, enhance productivity, generate employment, and advance the goal of farmer welfare and national self-reliance in the agri sector.
