UP’s Dussehri Mangoes Reaches Dubai: First Direct Export from Lucknow

The sweetness of Uttar Pradesh’s famous Dussehri mangoes will now directly reach the markets of Dubai. For the first time, a direct consignment of Dussehri mangoes from Lucknow has been exported to Dubai. On Sunday, Uttar Pradesh Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Horticulture and Agricultural Exports, Dinesh Pratap Singh, flagged off a 1,200 kg shipment from the mango pack house located in Rahmankhera.

On the occasion, Minister Singh said that through the Rahmankhera Mango Pack House, the state is now successfully connecting its mangoes to international markets. He added that scientists have also succeeded in extending the shelf life of the fruit, which will further aid in exports. The rise in agri-export volumes is set to benefit farmers with better returns.

Until now, mangoes from UP were typically routed through other states or major trade centers before reaching international destinations. However, this time, Dussehri mangoes from the Malihabad region were sent directly from Lucknow to Dubai by air after undergoing rigorous quality checks and specialized packaging. The total value of the dispatched consignment is USD 2,992. A similar 1,200 kg consignment was sent to Dubai a day earlier. The exported mangoes fetched around ₹211 per kg — significantly higher than local market prices.

Under the Indo-German AMD Project, three Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) from the Lucknow region were trained in agricultural exports. Of these, two FPOs — Irada Farmers Producer Company Limited and Malihabad Farmers Producer Company Limited — received direct orders from Dubai for Dussehri mangoes. This marks their first year exporting mangoes independently to an international market.

Rais Ahmad, a mango farmer from Malihabad, expressed his pride, saying, “It’s a matter of great pride that mangoes from our orchards are now reaching foreign markets directly. This will increase our income and open new markets for us.” He also noted that such direct exports reduce the role of middlemen and allow farmers to earn better prices for their produce.

The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has played a vital role in enabling direct agri-exports across India. APEDA supports farmers and exporters through training, testing, and compliance with international standards. Following the success in Dubai, there are plans to expand exports of UP mangoes to other Gulf countries, Europe, and Asia. Efforts are also underway to strengthen air cargo infrastructure, cold chain logistics, and export systems to support this initiative.

Uttar Pradesh is one of the leading mango-producing states in India, and the Malihabad region is especially renowned for Dussehri mangoes. Following this successful initiative, plans are also being made to export other mango varieties like Langra and Chausa directly from the state.
