The National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd (Nafed) and Haryana Agro Industries Corporation Ltd (HAICL) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the sale of Nafed consumer products through their newly launched stores under the HarHit brand.

In order to compete with the market trends in the current scenario, the Haryana government has recently decided to launch Retail Expansion Plan 2020 in the state and open 2000 stores under the HarHit brand of its public sector undertaking HAICL.

It has also been reported that with a view to promoting the project, the government has decided to design a new logo for the Harhit brand. An open competition will be organized for this purpose in which anyone from the state can participate.

Nafed was set up with the object to promote cooperative marketing of agricultural produce to benefit the farmers. Agricultural farmers are the main members of Nafed.

Later, Nafed ventured into consumer marketing as a step towards diversification of its activities to make available essential items of daily need to the consumers at affordable rates.

The Nafed brand of pulses, spices, tea and other products are quite popular amongst the consumers owing to superior quality. Nafed deals in all kinds of pulses and spices produced in India.

One of the most important consumer products is Nafed brand tea available in two variants, namely Nafed CTC and Nafed Premium. Nafed brand teabags in ten flavours have also been added. The blending and packaging of tea are done at its own unit located in the tea-producing region in Guwahati.
