The central government has approved the purchase of gram, mustard and lentil from farmers at the minimum support price (MSP) under the Price Support Scheme (PSS). During the Rabi Marketing Season 2025, gram will be procured in 10 states, mustard in 7 states and lentil in 4 states.

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan told in a press conference at Krishi Bhavan in New Delhi on Thursday that for the Rabi Marketing Season 2025, the purchase of 27.99 lakh tonnes of gram, 9.40 lakh tonnes of lentil and 28.28 lakh tonnes of mustard has been approved at MSP. Along with this, the purchase of copra has also been approved in Tamil Nadu. The government has made the process of registration of farmers easy through the portals of NAFED and NCCF.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that the central government has decided that whatever tur, lentil, urad the farmer produces, it will be purchased at MSP. For this, registration will have to be done on the portals of NAFED and NCCF. He asked the state governments to ensure that there is no purchase below MSP. States should make effective and transparent procurement arrangements so that farmers can get fair prices for tur, lentil and urad.

The Central Government has approved the purchase of 13.22 lakh tonnes of tur in 9 states - Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh under the Price Support Scheme during the Kharif 2024-25 season. Also, it has been decided to extend the purchase period in Karnataka by 30 days till May 01.

According to the Agriculture Minister, procurement is going on at MSP through NAFED and NCCF in Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Telangana. A total of 2.46 lakh tonnes of tur was procured in these states till March 25, 2025, benefiting about 1.72 lakh farmers. He informed that the price of tur in Uttar Pradesh is currently running above MSP.
