IFFCO Chairman Dileep Sanghani has been elected as an At-Large Director on the Global Board of Directors of the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA), strengthening India’s representation in the global cooperative movement.
The election was held during the ICA General Assembly in Panama City. Sanghani’s appointment gives India a direct representation on the governing board of the global apex body for cooperatives, which represents cooperative organisations across countries and regions.
Sanghani has been associated with the cooperative sector for several decades and has worked on issues relating to farmers, the rural economy and cooperative institutions. He currently serves as Chairman of IFFCO and GUJCOMASOL and has held responsibilities in various national and international cooperative organisations.
The ICA is a global organisation representing cooperatives across sectors and countries. India has one of the world’s largest cooperative movements, with cooperatives playing a significant role in agriculture, credit, fertilisers, dairy and other rural economic activities.
Following his election, Sanghani expressed gratitude to ICA member countries, delegates and the global cooperative community. He said he would work to present the experience and perspective of India’s cooperative movement on the international platform and contribute to strengthening cooperation among cooperatives globally.
His election comes at a time when India is seeking a larger role for cooperatives in supporting farmers, strengthening rural institutions and promoting inclusive economic development. Representation on the ICA Global Board is expected to provide an additional platform for India to engage in international discussions on cooperative development and share its institutional experience.
Sanghani’s election marks a new representation of India in the ICA’s global governance structure and adds an international dimension to his long association with the cooperative sector.
