The National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd (NAFED) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Gujarat University, Ahmedabad, in the presence of Acharya Devvrat, Governor of Gujarat.

The MoU has been signed for capacity building, FPO formation, facilitating market linkages and promotion of natural farming in the state.

It was signed during the programme “Natural Farming — A Step Towards Climate Resilience and Sustainability” organized by Gujarat University at Raj Bhavan.

Rajbir Singh Panwar, Managing Director, NAFED and Prof Himanshu A Pandya, Vice Chancellor, Gujarat University, Ahmedabad, signed the MoU.

NAFED is one of the supporters and partners of Gujarat University.

The organization was set up to promote cooperative marketing of agricultural produce to benefit the farmers. Agricultural farmers are the main members of NAFED.

The objectives of NAFED are to organize, promote and develop marketing, processing and storage of agricultural, horticultural and forest produce, distribution of agricultural machinery, implements and other inputs; to undertake inter-state, import and export trade, wholesale or retail; and to act and assist for technical advice in agricultural production.  In furtherance of these objectives, NAFED undertakes several activities.

Last month NAFED signed an MoU with the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare to boost the initiative envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to promote millets towards the celebration of the International Year of Millets 2023.
