The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has facilitated the export of India's first ready-to-drink fig juice, made from GI-tagged Purandar Figs, to Poland. This milestone shipment, which departed on August 1, 2024, via Hamburg port in Germany, was flagged off by APEDA Chairman Abhishek Dev, with all stakeholders present. This event marks a significant achievement in showcasing India's unique agro-products on the international stage.

The journey of this innovative fig juice began at the APEDA Pavilion during the SIAL 2023 held in Greater Noida, New Delhi. The international trade showcase provided a crucial platform for the product's debut to the global market. Produced by Purandar Highlands Farmers Producer Company Ltd., the fig juice garnered substantial attention and won an award at the event, reflecting its potential in the global market.

APEDA's ongoing support has been pivotal in the development and export of this product. Following the first export of fresh GI-tagged Purandar Figs to Hamburg in 2022, APEDA has worked closely with smallholder farmers to enhance the product's value and reach. The fig juice, which holds a provisional patent, represents a notable innovation in the agricultural sector.

Additionally, the fig juice was presented at Macfrut 2024 in Rimini, Italy, supported by APEDA, further expanding its global presence. The positive response from buyers, including an inquiry from MG Sales SP in Wroclaw, Poland, led to this export.

This achievement not only highlights the potential of Indian agro-products but also underscores the importance of research and development in enhancing agricultural exports. It also emphasizes the crucial role of Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs) in promoting sustainable agricultural practices and expanding exports.
