NC-Congress alliance gets majority in Jammu and Kashmir, BJP gets 29 seats
The National Conference (NC) and Congress alliance has won the election by crossing the majority mark with 48 seats. The National Conference has won 42 seats and Congress 6 seats. On the other hand, BJP has won 29 seats and PDP 3 seats
The results of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections have been announced. The National Conference (NC) and Congress alliance won the election by crossing the majority mark with 48 seats. The National Conference has won 42 seats and Congress 6 seats. On the other hand, BJP has won 29 seats and PDP 3 seats. Jammu and Kashmir People's Conference (JPC), CPI (M), and Aam Aadmi Party have won one seat each while independent candidates have won 7 seats.
Notable results include former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who won elections from both Budgam and Ganderbal. He had a strong lead, winning Budgam by 18,485 votes and Ganderbal by 10,574 votes. On the other hand, BJP state president Ravinder Raina lost the Nowshera seat by a margin of 7,819 votes to National Conference's Surinder Kumar Chaudhary.
PDP's Mehbooba Mufti's daughter, Iltija Mufti, contested elections for the first time but lost from the Srigufwara Bijbehara seat, losing by more than 9,000 votes to National Conference's Bashir Ahmed Shah Veeri.
The Aam Aadmi Party made its mark by winning a seat for the first time in Jammu and Kashmir. Mehraj Malik defeated BJP's Gajay Singh Rana from the Doda seat by over 4,500 votes.
Voting for the 90 seats of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly occurred in three phases from September 18 to October 1. The voter turnout was 63.88 percent, slightly down from 65 percent in the 2014 elections, marking a decrease of 1.12%.
