Haryana CM Releases Rs 116 Crore Compensation to 53,821 Farmers for Crop Loss Due to Floods

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has released a compensation amount of Rs 116 crore 15 lakh to 53,821 farmers whose crops were damaged due to heavy rainfall and floods during August–September. Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shyam Singh Rana was also present on the occasion.

Addressing a press conference at the Chandigarh Civil Secretariat, the Chief Minister said the compensation includes Rs 35.29 crore for bajra, Rs 27.43 crore for cotton, Rs 22.91 crore for paddy, and Rs 14.10 crore for guar. The disbursal of funds has already begun, and the entire amount will be transferred to the bank accounts of beneficiary farmers within a week.

He added that several districts experienced flood-like conditions during the August–September rains. To assess the losses, the e-compensation portal was opened until September 15, and farmers were urged to report crop damage online.

Three districts reported the highest losses. Farmers in Charkhi Dadri have been sanctioned Rs 23.55 crore, Hisar Rs 17.82 crore, and Bhiwani Rs 12.15 crore. Earlier, the government had also released Rs 4.72 crore for compensation related to livestock loss, house damage, and other essential items affected by the floods.

Over 5 Lakh Farmers Registered for Compensation

A total of 5,29,199 farmers registered 31 lakh acres of crop area on the compensation portal for Kharif 2025. After verification, 53,821 farmers were found eligible, covering 1,20,380 acres of damaged farmland.

The Chief Minister reiterated that the state government stands firmly with farmers and compensates them for every genuine loss. Over the last 11 years, farmers in Haryana have received Rs 15,448 crore under crop loss compensation and the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana.

Attack on Congress

Targeting the opposition, CM Saini said that the previous Congress government “made a mockery of farmers’ suffering.” He alleged that patwaris did not conduct proper verification, resulting in incomplete compensation. Some farmers even received cheques of Rs 2 and Rs 5, he said. During its 10-year tenure, the Congress government disbursed only Rs 1,138 crore as compensation.

Action on Negligence

The Chief Minister told that six patwaris involved in negligent verification of crop loss during Kharif 2025 have been suspended. The government maintains a strict policy of accountability, and any officer found neglecting duty will face firm action.

Rs 358 Crore Released for Bajra Farmers

CM Saini further announced that bajra was brought under the Bhavantar Bharpai Yojana in Kharif 2021 to ensure farmers receive fair prices for their produce. Bajra procurement for the 2025–26 Kharif season began on September 23.

Under the scheme, the government decided to provide Rs 575 per quintal as price support. Today, 1.57 lakh farmers received Rs 358 crore 62 lakh, and the payments have already begun. The full amount will reach farmers’ bank accounts within a week.

This season, the state procured 6.23 lakh metric tonnes of bajra, and farmers have already received Rs 927 crore under the Bhavantar scheme. With today’s release, the total support has risen to Rs 1,285 crore 62 lakh.
