The wheat crop in Rajasthan has been adversely affected by extreme heat and rainfall. In response, the central government has eased some quality norms for wheat procurement in Rajasthan, providing relief to farmers and traders.

According to a circular issued by the Department of Food and Public Distribution, Government of India, farmers in Rajasthan have been granted some relaxation in wheat quality conditions for the Rabi Marketing Season 2025-26. The central government made this decision in response to a special request from the state government. Due to early heat and unseasonal rains in Rajasthan, there is a risk of deterioration in wheat grain quality.

Key Changes in Procurement Norms:

  • The permissible limit for shrunken or broken wheat grains has been increased from 6% to 20%.
  • The proportion of damaged and partially damaged grains should not exceed 6% combined.
  • Luster-loss in wheat will now be acceptable up to 10%.

No deductions will be applied by the government for these relaxations. Additionally, wheat procured under these concessional rules must be stored separately from normal wheat. It will not be transported outside Rajasthan and will be utilized on a priority basis before regular-quality wheat.

This year, the central government has set the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for wheat at ₹2,425 per quintal. Additionally, the Rajasthan government has announced a ₹150 per quintal bonus, allowing farmers to sell their produce at ₹2,575 per quintal.
