Telangana farmers demand SAP for sugarcane on lines of Punjab and Haryana

The Telangana Rythu Sangam has urged the state government to introduce a State Advisory Price (SAP) for sugarcane, similar to the system in Punjab and Haryana. The organization has also announced a state-level meeting for sugarcane farmers in Nelakondapally district on November 23 to discuss their issues and plan future actions.
According to a press release by the farmers' organization, T. Sagar, the state general secretary of Telangana Rythu Sangam, stated that sugarcane farmers are facing severe challenges. He criticized the Central Government for allowing corporate sugar imports, which he said harmed local farmers and threatened the survival of sugar mills in India.
He highlighted that many farmers have not received their payments for months, with some waiting for over a year. He demanded the immediate clearance of pending dues and called for the withdrawal of the draft 'Sugar (Control) Order, 2024,' which allows the sale of raw sugar in the domestic market.
The organization warned of a statewide protest if the Centre and the state government fail to address these concerns and implement fair policies for sugarcane farmers.
