Indore Creates a New Record, NOTA is the Main Opponent of BJP on this Seat
NOTA had got 1.28 lakh votes, though BJP road to win is clear after withdrawal of Congress candidate
The counting of votes for the Lok Sabha elections is going on across the country since this morning. Meanwhile, 'NOTA' has got record-breaking votes on one seat. 'NOTA' has set a new record in Indore seat of Madhya Pradesh. Here, 'NOTA' has got more than 2 lakh votes till 1 pm. With this, 'NOTA' (votes cast for NOTA in Indore) has broken the previous record of Gopalganj seat of Bihar.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, 'NOTA' got 90,257 votes on Gopalganj seat. Whereas, 'NOTA' has got more than 2 lakh votes on Indore seat of Madhya Pradesh. BJP candidate ahead from Indore seat Talking about Indore seat, outgoing MP of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Shankar Lalwani is ahead of his nearest rival Bahujan Samaj Party candidate Sanjay Solanki by more than 10 lakh votes. According to the counting data till 4 pm, BJP candidate Shankar Lalwani has got 12,26,751 votes so far. Whereas, BAP candidate Sanjay Solanki has got 51,659 votes. With this huge difference, BJP candidate Shankar Lalwani is moving towards his record victory.
Congress candidate had withdrawn nomination
The interesting thing about Indore seat is that before the election on this seat, the Congress candidate had withdrawn his nomination and joined BJP. Actually, Congress's declared candidate Akshay Kanti Bam had withdrawn his nomination on the last date of withdrawal of nomination, 29 April. After which Congress had appealed to the local voters to cast their vote for 'NOTA'.
What is NOTA?
NOTA means 'None of the Above'. Which means 'none of these' i.e. the voter does not like any candidate. Pressing the NOTA button means that the voter does not want any candidate. The NOTA option is present in the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) and the voter can register his protest by pressing the NOTA button. Under NOTA, the voter's vote is also counted, and its percentage is also calculated.
