The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has announced the constitution of Inter-Ministerial Central Teams (IMCTs) to assess the damage caused by recent floods in Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Jammu and Kashmir.

“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Central Government stands shoulder to shoulder with the states affected by natural calamities in mitigating the hardships faced by the people,” said an MHA press release.

On the directions of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the MHA has constituted IMCTs for Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Jammu & Kashmir to assess damage caused by heavy rainfall, floods, flash floods, cloudbursts, and landslides. These teams will make on-the-spot assessments of the situation and review relief works carried out by the state governments. An IMCT and a Multi-Sectoral Team have already visited the state of Himachal Pradesh.

The MHA is in constant touch with senior officials of the affected states and Union Territories and has extended all necessary logistical assistance, including the deployment of NDRF teams, Army personnel, and Air Force helicopters to support search and rescue operations as well as the restoration of essential services.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Jammu on Sunday. He visited the flood-hit areas of Jammu and inspected the Tawi Bridge, Shiva Temple, and the houses damaged by the floods. Amit Shah also spoke with Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann regarding the flood situation in Punjab. The Centre has assured full assistance to the state.
