Govt Hikes MSP for 14 Kharif Crops; Paddy MSP Increased by ₹69

The government has raised the MSP for soybean by 9%, setting it at ₹5,328 per quintal. The MSP for arhar (tur) has been increased by ₹450 to ₹8,000 per quintal, and for urad by ₹400 to ₹7,800 per quintal.

Govt Hikes MSP for 14 Kharif Crops; Paddy MSP Increased by ₹69

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved an increase in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for 14 Kharif crops for the 2025–26 season. The MSP for common paddy has been raised by ₹69 to ₹2,369 per quintal, marking an increase of nearly 3%—the lowest in five years. The MSP for moong has been increased by ₹86 to ₹8,768 per quintal, representing a less than 1% hike.

The government has increased the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for soybeans by around 9%, setting it at ₹5,328 per quintal. The MSP for arhar (tur) has been increased by ₹450 to ₹8,000 per quintal, and for urad by ₹400 to ₹7,800 per quintal.

Compared to last year, the highest MSP hike has been given to nigerseed at ₹820 per quintal, followed by ragi (₹596), cotton (₹589), and sesame (₹579 per quintal).

The central government claims that farmers are being provided with more than 50% profit over their production cost, aligning with its policy of fixing MSP at least 1.5 times the cost of production.

The MSP for hybrid jowar has been raised by ₹328 to ₹3,699 per quintal; for bajra, by ₹150 to ₹2,775; and for maize, by ₹175 to ₹2,400 per quintal.

Among oilseeds, the MSP for groundnut has been increased by ₹480 to ₹7,263 per quintal, and for sunflower seed by ₹441 to ₹7,721 per quintal. The MSP for cotton has been raised by ₹589 per bale. The MSP for medium staple cotton is now ₹7,710, while that for long staple cotton is ₹8,110 per bale.

The government claims that the highest expected returns over production cost have been given in bajra (63%), maize (59%), arhar (59%), and urad (53%).
