The Central Government fixes MSP for 23 crops in both Kharif and Rabi seasons, but most of the farmers have to sell their commodities below MSP as the procurement is done at MSP in only limited quantities as compared to total production. So, the farmer organizations have been demanding for long to make MSP guarantee for crops into law.
Opening the session, RKMS Convener VM Singh said that the farmers would not rest until the law is made for MSP guarantee of crops. He said that farmers had been made the pawns of political parties for the last 70 years and political parties had been concerned about the farmers only at the time of elections and that, too, had been limited only to their manifestos. The farmers will now fight their own battle and that too with legal rights. So, 200 farmer organizations from across the country have gathered at the Punjab Khod village in Delhi to talk about the fields from the fields.
