A total of 1,145 projects have been approved under various components of Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana (PMKSY), with an investment (approved Grant-in-Aid) of ₹4,746.89 crore. This information was given by the Minister of State for Food Processing Industries Ravneet Singh in a written reply in Lok Sabha today.
The Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) is implementing the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana (PMKSY) to strengthen India's food processing sector. The scheme, a central sector umbrella initiative, aims to enhance infrastructure, reduce post-harvest losses, and ensure better price realization for farmers.
Under component schemes of PMKSY, the government provides financial assistance of up to ₹15 crore, covering 35% of eligible project costs in general areas and 50% in difficult areas, as well as for projects led by SC/ST entrepreneurs, Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), and Self-Help Groups (SHGs). The scheme is designed to modernize supply chains and boost food processing levels across the country.
PMKSY is a comprehensive package of component schemes. The major components of schemes include:
- Integrated Cold Chain and Value Addition Infrastructure – 397 projects approved, receiving ₹2,108.02 crore in grants.
- Agro Processing Cluster Scheme – 75 projects approved with ₹194.04 crore grant
- Creation/Expansion of Food Processing & Preservation Capacities – 526 projects sanctioned, with a grant of ₹1,083.84 crore.
- Mega Food Park Scheme – 41 projects approved, with a grant of ₹1,175.27 crore
- Creation of Backward and Forward Linkages – 61 projects approved, receiving ₹143.31 crore grant
- Operation Greens – 45 projects sanctioned, with a grant of ₹42.41 crore
A crucial component of PMKSY is the Integrated Cold Chain and Value Addition Infrastructure scheme, which minimizes post-harvest losses of horticulture & non-horticulture produce and provides better prices to farmers for their produce. The scheme supports projects with grants up to ₹10 crore for setting up integrated cold chain projects, including irradiation facilities.
Out of 397 approved projects, 286 have been completed, creating a processing capacity of 112.35 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) per annum and a preservation capacity of 25.39 LMT per annum. This infrastructure has significantly reduced agricultural wastage and improved value addition in the food processing sector.
Cold Chain scheme is demand-driven and proposals are invited by the Ministry from across the country through floating Expressions of Interest (EoIs) from time to time based on athe vailability of funds under the scheme.
