IIT Kanpur partners Singapore to enrich Indian start-up ecosystem

The premier Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur has opened a channel with Singapore to promote an array of start-ups, including agritech.

To formalize the proposed start-up ecosystem, IIT Kanpur’s technology business incubator Startup Incubation and Innovation Centre (SIIC) has sent a multi-sectoral business delegation to Singapore.

The delegation led by SIIC CEO Nikhil Agarwal will hold wide-ranging confabulations with its Singapore counterparts and industry May 16-20.

According to IIT Kanpur, the delegation comprises 16 stellar start-ups representing AI/ML (artificial intelligence/machine learning), agritech, manufacturing and cyber security areas.

It will be meeting an eminent set of international industrialists and venture capitalists (VCs) followed by a meeting with the IIT Alumni Association Singapore.

The meetings with diverse industrialists will potentially unleash networking opportunities with Singapore-based VCs and investors, along with possibilities for further collaborations.

SIIC professor-in-charge (incubation & innovation) Prof Amitabha Bandyopadhyay said, “Many SIIC companies have global products, and thus it is necessary to connect them with global customers.”

“Indian start-ups must work on leveraging their local innovations on global platforms. The requirement for our national start-ups to demonstrate their technological prowess is critical and urgent,” Agarwal opined.

He said the IIT Kanpur delegation to Singapore would increase the opportunities for Indian innovators manifold in terms of international collaboration, technology exchange, and investment.

Established in 2000, SIIC is among the oldest technology business incubators in India. The multifaceted, vibrant incubation ecosystem nurtured over two decades continues to fill all the gaps on the road to converting an idea into a business.
