AAP heads for a landslide win in Punjab

If the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) wins an election, it does so with a big margin. If we take a look at the early trends, this is what seems to be happening in Punjab this time.

While the AAP is leading in 89 seats in the 117-seat Assembly, the Congress is ahead in only 15. The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are leading in eight and four seats respectively.

Celebrations have started for AAP's Chief Ministerial (CM) candidate Bhagwant Singh Mann in Punjab, with sweets being prepared at his home and a giant stage being built in Sangrur, his hometown.

Congress stalwarts Navjot Sidhu and Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi are trailing. So is Akali Dal's Sukhbir Badal. Former Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, who formed his own party after leaving the Congress, is trailing from the Patiala Urban seat.

AAP leader Manish Sisodia says, “Punjab has given chance to Kejriwal's model of governance. Today, his model of governance has been established at the national level. This is the victory of the aam aadmi (common man).”

Raghav Chadha, the state in-charge of the party, says: “The people of Punjab have voted for the jodi (pair) of Bhagwat Mann and Arvind Kejriwal. People of Punjab have shown their support for the Kejriwal model of governance. God has blessed us with a huge victory. We have to do a lot of work for the people of Punjab.”

Navjot Singh Sidhu, who is the Congress chief in Punjab, is trailing in the third position from Amritsar East. AAP candidate Jeevan Jyot Kaur is leading while SAD candidate Bikram Majithia is in the second position.
