IFFCO places order for oxygen plant at Phulpur
The plant, with a capacity of 130 cubic metres per hour (cmph), will commence operations by May 30. Total oxygen production will rise to 460 cmph with these three plants.

As the Covid-19 pandemic rages across the country, hospitals have been gasping for oxygen like never before. In order to fulfil the demand for medical-grade oxygen in the country, the Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Ltd (IFFCO) has given the order for an oxygen plant to be established at Phulpur in Prayagraj (UP).
The plant, which is to have a capacity of 130 cubic metres per hour (cmph), will commence operations by May 30. Another plant at Aonla in Bareilly (UP) will also start production by the same date. The groundwork for the two plants has already started. The next plant, which will come up at Paradeep in Odisha, is also coming up at high speed. Total oxygen production will rise to 460 cmph with these three plants.
The transposition of the plant needs some time. A dedicated separate team has been assigned for this project. It is an automatic cylinder-filling turnkey plant.
IFFCO will give free oxygen to hospitals in the service of the nation. The Phulpur plant will generate medical-grade oxygen and fill 450 big D-type cylinders daily and 150 medium B-size cylinders on demand.
The fertiliser cooperative will fill up the oxygen cylinders for hospitals in UP and adjoining areas free of cost. They need to bring their own cylinders for a refill. A security deposit will be taken if cylinders are taken from IFFCO. An attempt will be made to avoid promoting hoarding of oxygen.
People at IFFCO are educating farmers and villagers at the remotest level about this pandemic. Last year also, IFFCO launched countrywide campaigns called “#IFFCOFightsCorona” and “Break the Corona Chain”. It distributed face masks, medical soaps, sanitisers and vitamin C tablets along with free ration wherever it was required for labourers and others.
