MSP Committee Holds 45 Meetings So Far, but no timeline for the final report
The government constituted the committee in July 2022, comprising representatives of farmers, the central government, state governments, agricultural economists, and scientists. The formation of the panel was promised in conjunction with the withdrawal of the three contentious farm laws.
The committee on Minimum Support Price (MSP), chaired by former agriculture secretary Sanjay Agrawal, has convened 45 meetings so far to deliberate on issues related to MSP, Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan informed the Rajya Sabha on Friday.
Chouhan did not specify a timeline for the committee’s final report but said its recommendations will play a key role in shaping future policies for farmers’ income security.
Replying to a question in the Upper House, Chouhan said the panel is working to examine measures for making MSP more effective and transparent. The minister noted that the committee’s discussions have involved consultations with farmer groups, agricultural experts, and other stakeholders.

Since its inception, the committee has been holding regular meetings to deliberate on these key issues and develop actionable recommendations. To date, it has conducted six main meetings and 39 sub-committee meetings.
The committee’s mandate includes suggesting measures to make MSP more effective and transparent, promoting natural farming, and recommending changes in crop patterns in line with the country’s evolving needs.
