Relief for Moong farmers, daily procurement limit increased to 40 quintals in Madhya Pradesh
The central government has given relaxation in the daily purchase of moong and urad in Madhya Pradesh. Now farmers will be able to sell up to 40 quintals of produce instead of 25 in a day at government procurement centers.
The central government has increased the daily procurement limit for moong and urad from 25 quintals to 40 quintals at the procurement centers in Madhya Pradesh. Farmers will be able to sell 40 quintals of moong in a day at government procurement centers. A letter has been sent by the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare to the central procurement agencies National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED) and National Cooperative Consumer Federation (NCCF) in this regard. In which it has been asked to increase the daily procurement quantity of moong and urad from 25 quintals to 40 quintals.
The government may have increased the limit of moong procurement per day, but the Congress is constantly raising questions on it. Kedar Shankar Sirohi, president, Madhya Pradesh Congress Farmer Cell said that normal capacity of the trolley is around 80 to 100 quintals. With new procurment limit for a day farmer will be able to sell only half of his crop on a particular day. For selling the rest of the produce he will have to visit the market again. He said that the purpose of increasing the purchase limit was to provide relief to small and medium farmers. But, farmers are still not happy with the purchase process.
Farmers are facing many problems since the start of moong purchase in Madhya Pradesh. This year the government has limited the quantity of moong purchase to 8 quintals per hectare. Whereas, the average yield of moong in the state is 10 to 12 quintals per hectare. Due to this limit which farmers are not able to sell their entire produce to the government and they are forced to sell their crop at a price lower than MSP of Rs 8558 for the current marketing year.
