IFFCO sets record with a production of 8 lt phosphoric acid a year at Paradeep plant

The Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative (IFFCO) has produced 8,05,000 tonnes of phosphoric acid (P2O5) at its Paradeep plant in the financial year 2021-22. This is the highest-ever production by any single plant in the world. Not only has IFFCO achieved this unique distinction, but this has also helped in the production of high indigenous phosphate-based fertilizers, i.e., DAP/NPS, and reduced the dependence on imported complex fertilizers.

Phosphate is a key nutrient for crops and crucial to high yields. India has insufficient phosphate reserves and we have to import it in the form of rock phosphate (raw material), phosphoric acid (intermediate product) and complex fertilizers (finished product) in large quantities. IFFCO’s Paradeep unit has a daily production capacity of 2,650 tonnes of P2O5. This unit of IFFCO has the biggest single reactor in the world.

This achievement is a milestone in the direction of the Prime Minister’s vision of AatmaNirbhar Bharat. It has not only ensured quality, indigenous fertilizers but also led to saving the expenditure of precious forex reserves.
