IMD forecasts heavy rainfall in several states; monsoon withdrawal likely from Rajasthan from Sept 15
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall over Odisha, Maharashtra, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, and Andhra Pradesh between September 13-17, 2025, with extremely heavy rain in Uttarakhand. Northeast, east, and central India are also set to receive showers. IMD warned fishermen against venturing into rough seas and said monsoon withdrawal from west Rajasthan may begin from September 15.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast of widespread rainfall activity across several regions of the country due to a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected over Odisha, Maharashtra, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, and parts of Andhra Pradesh between September 13 and 17, 2025. Telangana is likely to see very heavy rains on September 13, while coastal Maharashtra may experience intense showers on September 14 and 15.
In addition, conditions are becoming favourable for the withdrawal of the southwest monsoon from some parts of west Rajasthan from September 15. IMD said extremely heavy rainfall (≥21 cm) was recorded in Uttarakhand in the past 24 hours, while Assam, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, and Marathwada also reported very heavy showers.
For the coming days, northeast India, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura, is expected to witness moderate to heavy rains with isolated very heavy falls at different intervals. East and central India, including Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh, will also experience heavy rainfall spells.
The IMD has also cautioned fishermen against venturing into rough seas in parts of the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal until September 18 due to strong winds and high waves.
