PM Modi Reviews Flood Situation in Uttarakhand, Declares ₹1,200 Crore Support

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday announced a financial assistance package of ₹1,200 crore for flood and rain-affected areas of Uttarakhand. During his visit to Dehradun, the Prime Minister reviewed the devastation caused by heavy rains, cloudbursts, and landslides, and assured all possible support from the Union Government.

Chairing a high-level review meeting, PM Modi emphasized a multi-dimensional recovery plan for the state. This includes rebuilding damaged houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin, restoring highways, reconstructing schools, providing relief through the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF), and distributing mini livestock kits to affected farmers.

The Centre will also extend special financial assistance to households whose homes were damaged in the floods. The Prime Minister underlined that the government’s priority is to help families rebuild their lives with dignity and security.

Expressing deep condolences to the families of those who lost their lives, PM Modi announced an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh to the next of kin of the deceased and ₹50,000 for those seriously injured. He further declared that children orphaned by the disaster will be supported under the PM CARES for Children scheme, ensuring long-term care and welfare.

The Prime Minister noted that Inter-Ministerial Central Teams have already been sent to assess the extent of damage, and further support will be considered after a detailed evaluation. He clarified that the current package is an interim relief measure, with additional aid to follow based on state reports and central assessments.

PM Modi met with families affected by the calamity and assured them of the Centre’s unwavering support. He praised the efforts of the NDRF, SDRF, Army, and state administration, who have been working round the clock in relief and rescue operations.

Reiterating the government’s commitment, the Prime Minister said, “The devastation caused by floods in the state has saddened us all. My deepest condolences to the families who lost their loved ones. I pray that the people injured recover at the earliest. We are ensuring swift relief, rehabilitation and long-term measures to support those affected.
