NAAS-Dhanuka Awards Honour Agricultural Extension Champions, Highlight Role of Innovation in Farmer Prosperity
NAAS and Dhanuka Agritech honoured leading KVKs, ATARIs and agricultural scientists with the NAAS–Dhanuka Awards 2026 in New Delhi. The awards recognized excellence in agricultural extension, technology dissemination and farmer outreach, while highlighting the importance of public-private partnerships, sustainable agriculture and climate-smart farming practices.
The National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (NAAS), in partnership with Dhanuka Agritech Limited, honoured some of the country’s leading agricultural institutions and scientists with the NAAS–Dhanuka Awards for Excellence in Agricultural Extension 2026 during the Annual General Meeting of NAAS in New Delhi.
The awards recognize outstanding contributions by Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), Agricultural Technology Application Research Institutes (ATARIs), and extension scientists in promoting scientific farming practices, accelerating technology adoption, and strengthening farmer outreach across India.
According to NAAS, the awardees were selected through a rigorous evaluation process conducted by a high-level selection committee. The assessment focused on technology dissemination, innovation in extension methodologies, farmer engagement, capacity building, adoption of scientific practices, and measurable impact on agricultural development.
The awards acknowledged institutions and individuals that have successfully bridged the gap between agricultural research and farmers’ fields. Several KVKs from different agro-climatic regions of the country received zone-wise recognition for their efforts in taking scientific innovations to farmers and improving agricultural productivity through training, demonstrations, and advisory services.
The National Best KVK Award was presented to KVK-Mandi in Himachal Pradesh for its exemplary work in agricultural extension and farmer-centric development. The Best ATARI Award was conferred on ICAR-ATARI, Kolkata, recognizing its contribution to coordinating and strengthening extension activities across eastern India.
Two eminent scientists were also honoured for their contributions to agricultural extension and technology dissemination. Their work has played a significant role in promoting farmer-oriented innovations and enhancing the reach of scientific knowledge among farming communities.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. R.G. Agrawal, Chairman Emeritus of Dhanuka Agritech Limited, said that the strength of Indian agriculture lies not only in scientific discoveries but also in the ability of institutions and scientists to convert knowledge into practical solutions for farmers. He noted that the awardees represent the best of India’s agricultural extension system and have demonstrated exceptional leadership in taking innovations from laboratories to the field.
Marking World Environment Day 2026, Dr. Agrawal emphasized the growing importance of sustainable agriculture. He highlighted the role of extension professionals in promoting climate-smart farming, efficient resource use, soil health management, water conservation, and environmentally sustainable agricultural practices.
