The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has rolled out the Financial Literacy Week (FLW) 2022 themed around ‘digital banking’ to create financial awareness among the people.

The theme for the current edition of FLW during February 14-18 is ‘Go Digital, Go Secure’, which is among the strategic objectives of the National Strategy for Financial Education 2020-25.

In the backdrop of digitalization of the financial landscape and new-age digital and cryptocurrencies, the theme is more relevant and contemporary to protect the interests of the people.

The RBI has been observing FLW annually since 2016 to propagate financial education messages. The more recent FLWs were themed around ‘Farmers’, ‘MSMEs’ and ‘Credit Discipline and Credit from Formal Institutions’.

According to an RBI press communiqué, the focus of the FLW 2022 will be on creating awareness about the convenience and security of digital transactions, and the protection of customers.

Moreover, the central bank will undertake a mass media campaign during the month of February to disseminate important financial awareness messages to the public.

In Uttar Pradesh, FLW 2022 was inaugurated through the digital medium by R Lakshmi Kanth Rao, Regional Director, RBI Lucknow.

In the current edition of the FLW, the RBI has set off a series of financial literacy awareness activities and programmes. Messages are being circulated to the public through 19 community radios in various districts. Besides, they are being disseminated through LEDs and digital screens at railway and metro rail stations in the state. About 16 Financial Literacy mobile vans will be deployed across UP for the wider dissemination of such messages. Nearly 300 Financial Literacy camps will be organized by banks during the FLW across UP.
