CM Manohar Lal Khattar, cabinet resign after cracks in BJP-JJP alliance

Haryana has plunged into the throes of political turmoil as the entire cabinet including Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has resigned while the Bharatiya Janata Party's alliance with Dushyant Chautala's Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) is on the verge of breaking.

Chief Minister Khattar and his cabinet ministers on Tuesday submitted their resignations to Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya. Haryana Minister Chaudhary Kanwar Pal has said that Governor Bandaru Dattatreya has accepted the resignation. After submitting his resignation, Kanwar Pal told reporters that Khattar would remain the Chief Minister till a replacement assumed office.
The new Chief Minister of Haryana can take oath by this evening. BJP has the support of independent MLAs while many JJP MLAs are said to be in touch with BJP. Before the Lok Sabha elections, there was no consensus between the ruling BJP and JJP regarding seat sharing. Meanwhile, this incident has come to light.
In the 90-member Haryana Assembly, BJP has 41 MLAs, JJP has 10 MLAs and the opposition Congress has 30 MLAs. The BJP alliance has the support of six out of seven independent MLAs. Indian National Lok Dal and Haryana Lokhit Party have one seat each. With the support of independent MLAs, BJP can achieve the majority figure of 46 seats.
Congress leader Deepender Hooda said that he had been informed about today's developments in Sirsa 3 months ago. "I had told the people of the state that there has been an unannounced agreement between BJP and JJP to break the pact. And this time, at the behest of BJP, JJP, and INLD will again come separately to dent the Congress votes. There was speculation for a long time in the political circles of Haryana that the BJP-JJP alliance would break before the elections. This is also being seen as an undeclared strategy to steal Jat votes."
Today BJP has called a meeting of its MLAs in Chandigarh. BJP observers Arjun Munda and Tarun Chugh have left for Chandigarh. In the meeting, the new leader of the BJP Legislature Party i.e. the would be Chief Minister of Haryana can be elected. Haryana Deputy CM Dushyant Chautala has also called a meeting of senior party leaders and MLAs at his residence in Delhi today. Congress has also called its MLAs to Delhi.
This morning, Haryana's independent MLA Nayan Pal Rawat said that we have already given our support to the government led by CM Manohar Lal. Today, in the meeting with Chief Minister Manohar Lal, the strategy for Lok Sabha elections was also discussed. From the conversation, I got the impression that the beginning of breaking the alliance with JJP has started.
