RSS-affiliated Bharatiya Kisan Sangh (BKS) has demanded that GST on agricultural inputs should be abolished. On the second day of its All India Representative Assembly in Ajmer, the BKS also demanded that farmers should get remunerative prices on the basis of cost.
"There should be a substantial increase in Kisan Samman Nidhi. GM seeds should not be allowed by giving priority to organic. Seeds are the right of farmers, governments should make arrangements to stop exploitation of farmers in markets," said BKS General Secretary Mohini Mohan Mishra, presenting the suggestions in the meeting to solve the problems of farmers.
He said a comprehensive policy should be made for marketing of grain and added that farmers should get remunerative prices on the basis of cost. Farmer representatives from all over the country expressed their views in the discussion on the proposal of the farmers' movement.
"Farmers said that the policy of our organization is that farmers' interest lies within the framework of national interest. Therefore we do not support violent movements," BKS said in a press release.
Mishra said that when farmers' organizations of the country come to Delhi in a disciplined and peaceful manner and present the problems and demands of the farmers, the government does not consider it appropriate to talk to them. "This attitude of the government is somewhat regrettable. Due to this, the possibility of promoting violent agitation increases," he said.
A resolution regarding Shri Anna said that India's direction towards providing healthy food to the world will prove to be a boon in the future. The Government of India is also doing good work to promote Shree Anna. With the intention of providing nutritious food to the military personnel working in the security institutions of the country, the government has contributed twenty-five percent of the food.
"This is a welcome step. Through the proposal, the farmers' union suggested that there should be no tampering with the traditional seeds of Shri Anna and its adequate production and availability at a fair price should be ensured. In the proposal, the farmers union also demanded a comprehensive policy for marketing of grain," the resolution added.
