Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Ltd (IFFCO), the world’s number one and largest cooperative, elected Dileep Sanghani as its 17th Chairman on January 19. The elections were held due to the demise of the incumbent Chairman Balvinder Singh Nakai on October 11, 2021.
The elected Board of Directors of IFFCO unanimously elected Sanghani as the Chairman. He was earlier serving as Vice-Chairman of the cooperative.
Sanghani said on his election that IFFCO was committed to farmers and cooperatives and will continue to work for the farmers on the lines of the Prime Minister’s vision of “Sahkar se Samriddhi” (prosperity through cooperation).
Dr US Awasthi, MD, IFFCO said, “At IFFCO we continue to perform in sync with the vision of our Honourable Prime Minister of Atmanirbhar Krishi and Atmanirbhar Bharat to fulfil the dream of doubling the farmers’ income.”
Sanghani is a senior co-operator from Gujarat. He is also the chairman of GUJCOMASOL (Gujarat State Cooperative Marketing Federation Ltd), a post he has held since 2017. He is a former minister of Agriculture, Co-operation Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, Cow-Breeding, Prison, Excise Law & Justice, Legislative & Parliamentary Affairs in the cabinet of the Gujarat Government.
Earlier Sanghani was elected as the Vice-Chairman of IFFCO in 2019. In a historic feat in 2021, he was elected to the position of the President of the National Cooperative Union of India (NCUI), the apex body of the cooperatives in India.
IFFCO has always been working for the welfare of Indian farmers since its inception. It has been able to achieve its current stature only due to the trust it has built after decades of service — from Green Revolution to rural mobile telephony to bringing contemporary technology and services to the palm of the Indian farmer through its digital initiatives.
Besides, IFFCO has been the first fertilizer manufacturer in the world to successfully introduce nanotechnology-based fertilizer IFFCO Nano Urea Liquid.
