Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that the government is working on a "Farm to Consumer" model to enable farmers to sell their produce directly to consumers. This would reduce the role of intermediaries and ensure maximum profits for farmers.
Shivraj Singh Chouhan interacted with farmers invited by the Government of India on the occasion of the 76th Republic Day at Pusa Campus, New Delhi. He emphasized that the central government is making every possible effort for the empowerment and prosperity of farmers. To ensure that farmers receive fair value for their produce, crops are being procured at Minimum Support Price (MSP).
Chouhan said that the welfare of farmers is the highest priority of the Modi government. Under PM Modi's leadership, we are formulating various schemes for farmers. A prosperous India requires prosperous farmers, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare is making every possible effort in this direction.
About 400 progressive farmers and scheme beneficiaries and their spouses were invited to attend the Republic Day parade at Kartavya Path. Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chouhan lauded the initiative to invite farmers to the Republic Day parade. “Agriculture is the backbone of the Indian economy, and farmers are its soul and lifeblood. Without farmers, not just India, but the entire world cannot function,” he said.
During the interaction, Shivraj Singh Chouhan highlighted the role of technology in addressing farmers’ challenges and underscored the government’s commitment to enhancing agricultural benefits through various schemes. He also stressed the significance of natural farming and crop diversification, noting that efforts are being made to raise farmers' awareness of these sustainable models.
