New Delhi

The Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO), the world’s No. 1 processed fertilizer cooperative, has welcomed the historic step of computerization of the Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) by the Ministry of Cooperation. PACS constitute the lowest tier of the three-tier short-term cooperative credit (STCC) in the country.

The project will bring high-end digital technology to the rural population, says the IFFCO press release. The computerization or digitalization of PACS will strengthen the service delivery to farmers, especially Small & Marginal Farmers (SMFs). It will make PACS the nodal service delivery points for Interest Subvention Scheme (ISS), Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) for various services, and provision of inputs like fertilizers, seeds etc.

Dr US Awasthi, MD, IFFCO, welcomed the step. He thanked and congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Minister of Home Affairs and Cooperation Amit Shah for this initiative. He said that through this, the last-mile farmer will be connected to the economy of the country. This will further strengthen the rural and agricultural economy of the country.

Dileep Sanghani, Chairman, IFFCO, said that it was a giant step towards Prime Minister Modi’s vision of Sahakar se Samridhhi with the aim of empowering the Indian farmers and rural India. He further said that this project would create transparency and accountability in the operations of PACS, thus facilitating them to diversify their businesses and undertake multiple activities and services.

Sanghani concluded that the computerization project will be revolutionary for the development of PACS.
