Abinash Verma has resigned from the post of Director General (DG) of the Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA). His resignation came on 27 April 2022 and has been accepted by ISMA. He had been appointed as DG in September 2010.

Abinash Verma has resigned from the post of Director General (DG) of the Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA), the interface between the Government and the sugar industry in the country. His resignation came on 27 April 2022 and has been accepted by ISMA. He had been appointed as DG in September 2010.

Earlier an officer in the Indian Railways, Verma served as Director, Sugar, in the Ministry of Food from February 2005 to May 2010 before he was appointed as DG, ISMA. His work in this capacity included the formulation and implementation of Central Government policies on sugar, sugarcane and ethanol. He was also responsible for the administration of the Sugar Development Fund (SDF), which provides loans at concessional rates for the expansion and modernization of the sugar industry. He also worked on projects related to ethanol production.

Verma went back to the Ministry of Railways for a few months before opting for voluntary retirement in September 2010. After this, he held the post of DG, ISMA, for 11 years and a half.
