Farmer Organisations Announce Joint Struggle Against Proposed India-US Trade Deal

Farmer organisations from across the country have announced a joint struggle against the proposed India-US trade deal, setting aside their differences to oppose the agreement. At a meeting of farmer organisations held at Kisan Bhawan in Chandigarh on Thursday, more than 100 farmer leaders from across India, including Gurnam Singh Charuni, Balbir Singh Rajewal, VM Singh, Sarwan Singh Pandher, Surjit Singh Phool and Abhimanyu Kohar, expressed unity and warned the government of an agitation if their concerns are ignored.

Representatives of various farmers, labour and social organisations participated in the meeting, including SKM (Non-Political), AKMM (Non-Political), Azad Kisan Morcha, Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Morcha Haryana, Rashtriya Kisan Mahasangh and the All India MSP Morcha.

The participating organisations unanimously resolved to launch a nationwide joint campaign against the proposed India-US trade deal. Speakers at the meeting said the agreement could pose a serious threat to the interests of farmers, livestock rearers, workers, small traders and the general public. They pledged to put aside their differences and fight unitedly against the proposed deal.

To finalise the future course of action, the organisations decided to convene another meeting on July 1, 2026, at Kisan Bhawan in Chandigarh. Five key representatives from each participating organisation and platform will attend the meeting to discuss the detailed strategy, action plan and the next phase of the joint movement against the India-US trade deal.

The organisations also decided to invite farmers, labour and social organisations that could not attend Thursday's meeting, to bring together as many groups as possible to formulate a broad, strong and effective strategy for the joint campaign.

Leaders present at the meeting said there could be no compromise on issues related to the country's agriculture, livestock sector, employment, food security and economic sovereignty. They warned that if the government continues to ignore the concerns of farmers and workers, the joint platform would be compelled to launch a nationwide agitation.

The meeting also resolved to launch a nationwide public outreach campaign to raise awareness among farmers, workers, youth, traders and the general public about the possible adverse implications of the proposed India-US trade deal. The organisations said efforts would also be made to bring more farmers, labourers, and social groups into the movement.
