Farmers in Rajasthan to Get ₹150 Bonus on Wheat Procurement, ₹40 in Madhya Pradesh; Procurement Preparations Begin

State governments have stepped up preparations for wheat procurement in the 2026-27 rabi marketing season. The Rajasthan government has announced a bonus of ₹150 per quintal on wheat procurement, which will begin on March 10, while the Madhya Pradesh government will provide farmers with a bonus of ₹40 per quintal. This bonus will be paid in addition to the minimum support price (MSP) of ₹2,585 per quintal fixed by the central government.

With the bonus included, farmers in Rajasthan will receive ₹2,735 per quintal for wheat, while those in Madhya Pradesh will get ₹2,625 per quintal. In contrast, Uttar Pradesh, the country’s largest wheat-producing state, has not announced any bonus on wheat procurement. Farmers in the state will therefore have to sell their produce at the MSP of ₹2,585 per quintal. As a result, government procurement in Uttar Pradesh is expected to remain lower compared with some other states offering additional incentives.

Last year, the Madhya Pradesh government had procured wheat at ₹2,600 per quintal, which included a bonus of ₹175 per quintal. However, this year the state government has announced a much lower bonus of ₹40 per quintal, drawing criticism from the opposition Congress.

Kedar Sirohi, Executive President of the Madhya Pradesh Congress Farmers’ Cell, said that farmers have been offered less than a quarter of the bonus given last year. He also pointed out that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had promised a minimum support price of ₹2,700 per quintal for wheat during the 2023 Assembly elections. According to him, farmers have still not received that price even after three years.

Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, during a meeting with representatives of the Bharatiya Kisan Sangh at his official residence on Friday, said that the state government had pledged in its manifesto to procure wheat at ₹2,700 per quintal by 2028 in the interest of farmers. He said the government remains committed to achieving and potentially surpassing this target in the coming years.

The Chief Minister also acknowledged that farmers faced difficulties in completing registration for wheat procurement in some areas. In response, the government has extended the last date for registration from March 7 to March 10. With procurement season approaching, states are making final preparations to ensure smooth procurement operations and timely payments to farmers.
