The Madhya Pradesh government has announced a bonus of ₹175 per quintal for wheat procurement. As a result, wheat will be purchased from farmers in the state at ₹2,600 per quintal. Whereas the central government has fixed the minimum support price of wheat at Rs 2425 for the Rabi procurement season 2025-26.

Wheat Procurement to Begin on March 15

The government has decided to start wheat procurement on March 15. Earlier, it was scheduled to begin on March 1, but due to delays in harvesting and excess moisture in the grain, the government revised the date.

This year, around 80 lakh tonnes of wheat is expected to be procured in Madhya Pradesh. To facilitate this, 4,000 procurement centers will be set up across the state. Approximately three lakh farmers have registered for wheat procurement.

2,600 Per Quintal is Insufficient: Jeetu Patwari

State Congress President Jeetu Patwari criticized the government, stating that ₹2,600 per quintal for wheat is a loss-making deal for farmers due to the rising cost of farming. "The price of wheat should be above ₹3,000 per quintal," he said, accusing the government of reneging on its promises. BJP, in its manifesto, had promised an MSP of ₹2,700 per quintal for wheat.
